How to Make an Empty Home Look Good

By Claire Briggs

When selling real estate in Australia, it’s extremely important that you put a lot of time and effort into making your home look good. A good looking home can work wonders when prospective buyers are viewing your property – remember first impressions are everything!

But what can you do if your home is empty?

You might be selling an empty home for a number of reasons. For instance, you could have already moved out of your home and into your new one, leaving the rooms empty after your furniture has gone. Alternatively, the property could be an investment, a holiday home, or perhaps you’re an overseas owner.

If your home is going to be empty when you place it on the market for sale, here are a number of tips to help you make it look its best.

Consider staging

Have you ever thought about renting furniture to stage your home? This has a number of benefits, as you can choose furniture and decor that brings out the best your home has to offer.

From creating reading nooks in the corner of rooms by the fireplace through the use of armchairs to showing how perfect a room could be for a nursery, the options are endless when you rent furniture.

This is especially important to consider if you’re going to have pictures of your home in your real estate marketing strategy.

Focus on the details

Another way to improve the look of your empty home is to focus on the nitty-gritty details. As there won’t be any furniture in the way to hide any wear and tear, you’ll need to patch up any scratches and items that need maintenance.

Make sure the interior is in pristine condition, as almost every detail will be visible without bulky furniture distracting the eyes of prospective buyers!

You may also want to consider improving the exterior of the home. Ensure gardens are well watered, lawns are perfectly manicured and the house has been washed.

Showcase its features

Does your property possess any unique features or selling points? Perhaps it has vaulted ceilings with wide windows or maybe there is a stunning view from the lounge.

Use these features to your advantage by opening up windows and doors to let in light and allowing buyers to experience the view for themselves.
