What colour scheme should you choose for your kitchen?

Choosing the colour scheme for any room in your home can be tough, but if you have property for sale, it’s even more crucial for you to make the right decision.
This is certainly the case in the kitchen, which is often said to be the heart of the home. If you’ve made the right colour choices then this could be a real deal breaker when it comes to selling your home, so it’s worth investing some time in making some careful decisions.

Neutral shades

If you want to play it safe in the kitchen, make sure you opt for neutral shades. These can be especially effective if the space is small, as it will make it appear larger.
You might want to avoid using paler colours in areas that are likely to be affected by splashback. Think carefully about the choices you make around the hob, for example, as this is often a prime target for dirt and grime.
Neutral colours don’t have to be dull, either. There are some warm, earthy tones that can add interest to your kitchen without you having to resort to the dreaded beige or magnolia.

Bold hues

Making a statement in the kitchen is something that involves making some bold decisions when it comes to colours and with the right choices, it could make a real impact.
There’s no need to go overboard with zingy shades, so why not think about incorporating a feature wall? This will help bring some life to the kitchen without being too overbearing – just be sure to choose wisely or you could alienate potential buyers.
Alternatively, think about introducing colour with some key pieces. Invest in a funky coloured kettle or utensils – at least if they’re not to a buyer’s taste they can easily change them.

Cupboard doors and worktops

It’s not just the walls of your kitchen that need careful thought – you’ll also need to take a closer look at the cupboard doors and worktops you have in the space.
Lighter shades will make the room appear larger, but bear in mind they’ll need to withstand some wear and tear. You need to strike the perfect balance between style and practicality, so think carefully before bringing in any drastic changes.
Bear in mind that your tastes might not be the same as someone else’s, so you might have to scale back your personality in order to secure a sale.
